KLENZTONE 3
CLEANING SOFT SURFACES

KLENZTONE #3 is used for cleaning soft surfaces is where colour is a factor and power washing & acid cleaning are not options. Klenztone #3 releases dirt & grime without discolouration or damage to the surface, and it can be rinsed with low pressure (200 psi), keeping the surface intact. Klenztone #3 is also used to clean Terrazzo, Travertine & Marble floors that have become dull and dingy after years of stripping and resealing.

KLENZTONE 3 is the floor formulation of KLENZTONE. All the surfaces meant to be cleaned with it are interior floors. After years of stripping and resealing, terrazzo, marble and travertine floors lose their appearance and become dull and dingy looking, especially if they are white or very light-coloured. When this happens, KLENZTONE restores their appearance, and because it eliminates the expense and labour of regrinding, it is highly economical.

Easy to Use: KLENZTONE #3 comes ready to use. All you do, after stripping a floor but before resealing, is apply it, give it time to work, flood rinse and wet vac. KLENZTONE does the work, deep cleaning the pores, so when you reseal, the floor’s long-lost colour and beauty are revealed. There is no hurry to rinse KLENZTONE off either. On the surfaces KLENZTONE #3 is recommended to clean, any formula of it can be left on to dry without harm.

Patch Test: Before using KLENZTONE on the surfaces KLENZTONE #3 is recommended to clean, you must do a patch test. This determines its suitability and which formula to use. Start with the recommended formula first. It almost always works best, but if unsure which formula is recommended, test KLENZTONE #4 first and work downward toward KLENZTONE #1. Marble, Terrazzo and Travertine floors are different than other masonry surfaces because they are almost always maintained with a topical sealer or floor finish. For this reason, before testing KLENZTONE, strip a small section of the floor in an inconspicuous area, and allow it to dry. Then, pour some KLENZTONE into a plastic dish and apply it to the stripped area with a paintbrush. KLENZTONE begins working immediately, but because it cleans over time, it is important not to rinse it off too soon. On the surfaces KLENZTONE #3 is recommended to clean, it achieves the best results in an hour or until it dries. After allowing sufficient time for KLENZTONE to work, rinse it off, allow the test area to dry and observe the results.

Sealers: Besides preventing KLENZTONE from working, sealers cause problems because they wear out and discolour. Floors, which oftentimes appear dirty, aren’t really, they just need sealers replaced. If stripping dramatically improves the appearance of the floor and not KLENZTONE, then the sealer is the problem, and you only need to replace it. If neither stripping nor KLENZTONE improves the appearance of the floor, then a solvent-based sealer is the problem. In this case, remove it with, K & E Chemical’s DBX Safety Paint Stripper and Sealer Remover® or another quality paint stripper. Then, upon determining the surface is stripped down to the bare stone, repeat the patch test with KLENZTONE to see if the floor is dirty.

Polished Stone: Besides being sealed with topical sealers, Marble, Limestone and Terrazzo floors are polished too. If this is the case, KLENZTONE #4, and not KLENZTONE #3, is the appropriate formula of KLENZTONE to use. KLENZTONE #3, in addition to cleaning, also prepares floors for sealing, so if used on polished stone, it will roughen up the finish and remove the shine.

Precautions: Adjacent surfaces must be properly protected when using this product. The damage KLENZTONE causes to glass, soft metal and glazed ceramic finishes (like those on tile and porcelain) is considered permanent. Cover nearby windows and aluminum with K & E Chemical’s Peel Clean® Plastic Strippable Coating or thick plastic sheeting and plastic tape, and if in doubt, whether KLENZTONE causes damage, test surfaces first or just cover them.

Preparation: Before cleaning with KLENZTONE , the surface must be dry, absorbent and completely free of sealers.

Application:

1) Apply KLENZTONE undiluted to the floor, thoroughly saturating it. The best way to do this is to pour the material directly onto the surface and spread it out with a mop. KLENZTONE is not recommended to be run through an auto scrubber.

2) Allow KLENZTONE time to clean. Use the time determined by your patch test.

3) Rinse the loosened grime from the surface. Upon determining, KLENZTONE has had enough time to clean, rinse the treated surface. This is usually best done by flooding the floor with water and wet vaccing. However, if available, an auto scrubber can be an ideal way to rinse KLENZTONE on floors. Note: Upon completing cleaning with KLENZTONE, it is intended for surfaces to be sealed. Terrazzo, marble and travertine floors restored with KLENZTONE have the dead appearance of newly ground stone. Sealing brings out the beauty of the floor and releases the colour in the stone. K & E Chemical’s glossy finish Terrazzo and Marble Sealer® or another quality stone sealer is recommended to be used.

Safety: Wear rubber gloves and safety glasses when handling KLENZTONE, and if it gets on skin or splashed into the eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. KLENZTONE has no appreciable odour when used on a clean surface. However, depending on how dirty surfaces are, KLENZTONE can release powerful fumes. Ventilate enclosed areas, and if necessary, limit the size of work areas. See Material Safety Data Sheet for more detailed hazard evaluation and safety information.
